Gordon stared down at her,
Willing her to fly.
“Whatever have I done?”
He shouted at the sky.
They had been having so much fun,
Their playful chase was all.
But now she lay there lifeless,
And at himself he was appalled.
He never meant to hurt her,
But he wanted her to stay.
If she'd only got to know him,
She wouldn't want to fly away.
His heart it had stopped pounding,
He licked a bloody paw,
Then settled down beside her,
And teased a feather from a claw.
Gordon got to thinking,
As he lazed beneath the trees.
It hadn't quite been all his fault,
She had been quite a tease.
She'd flitted in the branches.
She'd sung a bawdy song.
She'd seen his clear advances.
I mean, he thought, come on!
She'd landed close by on the lawn.
She must be up for fun.
So when she started back from him,
Of course he had to run.
The chase was such a rush.
He knew they would be friends.
But he got lost in the moment,
And the chase came to an end.
What happened next was all a blur.
He'd done things that he hadn't meant.
Then he curled up and began to purr.
Just another tragic accident.
